Los Angeles’s Best Public Transportation
Los Angeles and Hollywood can be reached by bus and metro.
There are numerous public transport options for getting to the city, but you will always have to transfer. You have the option of taking the bus from the LAX City Bus Transit Centre or the Metro Rail from the Aviation / LAX Station. Both locations are serviced by free shuttle buses that run frequently from all terminals (Lower/Arrivals Level). The Lot South / LAX City Bus Centre Shuttle connects the airport to the LAX City Bus Transit Centre at 96th Street, and the Metro C Line Shuttle connects to the Aviation / LAX Station. You can take a bus from LAX City Bus Transit Centre to Downtown Los Angeles, but you’ll always have to change to another bus to get to the city centre. You can continue your journey on Metro C Line (Green) from Aviation / LAX Station to 7th Street / Metro Centre Station in Los Angeles’ Financial District, but you must change to Metro A Line (Blue) in Willowbrook. The total travel time by public transportation, such as bus or metro/light rail, is about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
A one-way ticket costs $1.75, and a day ticket costs $7.00. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver or from ticket machines at the stations. If you are staying in Los Angeles for a few days or longer, a TAP card or the TAP LA app is more convenient. For more information, please visit Public Transportation Los Angeles Airport and the LA Metro website. The Los Angeles Metro Rail system is made up of six underground lines: the A Line (Blue), the B Line (Red), the C Line (Green), the D Line (Purple), the E Line (Expo), and the L Line (Gold). The K Line (Crenshaw/LAX) and two new subway stations near Los Angeles International Airport will open in 2022, though Aviation/Century (2023) and Aviation/96th Street (2024) will open later. Both stations are accessible via the C and K lines. The new LAX people mover will connect Aviation/96th Street to the airport terminals in 2024.

Travel time from LAX City Bus Transit Centre to Downtown Santa Monica (Arizona Ave & 5th St) is 30 minutes. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Lincoln, New Brunswick, and Venice, Nova Scotia. Venice Beach is a 25-minute walk from here. You can also take LA Metro bus lines 33 or 733 in the direction of Venice. In both cases, you can get off at the Main/Grand bus stop near Venice Beach. You pay $ 1.75 on top of the previously paid $ 1.25 for this bus. For more information, please visit the Big Blue Bus Route 3 website and timetable.
