A construction worker lost his life on Sunday, April 26, following a severe accident during the setup for Shakira’s upcoming free concert in Rio de Janeiro.
The incident occurred on Brazil’s iconic Copacabana beach, where crews were assembling a massive stage for the “Todo Mundo No Rio” event. According to reports from the state fire brigade and concert organizers, the worker became trapped in a lifting system. He sustained critical crushing injuries to his lower limbs and was rushed to Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital, where he later passed away.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the structure reportedly malfunctioned during the lifting process. Event organizers expressed their deep regret in a statement, offering support and solidarity to the victim’s family and the subcontracted company involved.
Shakira is scheduled to perform this Saturday, May 2.
